Welcome to Year 5.
Please check back regularly to hear all about the exciting learning that we do throughout the year.
This is a little of what we have been up to......
We have enjoyed a busy start to the year with many interesting topics on the go and we have already had a wonderful educational visit to the Royal Albert Hall, which was a wonderful experience to see and listen to various young musicians performing in this world-famous concert hall.
The year began with an introduction to the ancient Maya to kickstart our history topic.  We also the geography of North and South America which helped us learn more about the Maya region.
We are looking forward to a visit from Dr Diane Davies on 27th November.  Last year her visit was brilliant and once again we expect the children to learn a great deal from this Maya specialist.
In English we have already created some fabulous writing relating to a book, The Corn Grows Ripe, and we are now reading Kensuke's Kingdom.  This is our inspiration for a story based on the events experienced by the main character, who finds himself stranded on a desert island.
In maths the children have been working hard to improve their number skills and applying them to problem solving.
Gymnastics is our indoor PE focus; creating sequences involving bridges with apparatus and linking with partners. There have been many children keen to demonstrate their sequences and it is clear that there many talented gymnasts.
Peake Class are enjoying swimming lessons this term, and it will be the turn of Sharman Class in January.  Currently, Sharman Class are building skills for playing handball, which will be very helpful for the handball event on 25th October.
